Hi Abigail,
This is an interesting reaction to coming home from sleep away camp and one that I am not used to hearing. Perhaps they are good and ready to leave by the end of the summer and are not ridden with mixed emotions. My best advice to you is to ask them what the transition home is like for them. I think you will learn about how they handle transitions and they will probably appreciate your curiosity about their inner life. Good luck and let me know... now I am curious about your life :)

I am a bit confused.... see when my daughters come back from camp they are exactly the same. Nothing changes except for the occasional story/remark relating to activities that occurred during their last section of their sleep away camp and the often social networking in order to reach their camp friends. They have been going for a while the oldest 7 years and the youngest(three years younger)for 6 years. The younger on is 13 years old and the older one is 16(she is now working as a counselor assistant and even when they were seven after coming home they were exactly as they were when they left. What could this mean?

I truly believe what was written about the children returning from camp. My daughter is 14 years old and last year we noticed a big change upon her return. She was sad for days, did not want to engage in conversation and literally was on her computer 24/7 so she could stay in contact with her camp friends. Our family took it personally which resulted in a few arguments, etc... This year we know what to expect, I agree, give your child some space, they will come around eventually, dont take it personally and let them enjoy their great memories of a fabulous summer. Before you know it camp will be just around the corner once again.

Carolyn,

We are not on location at camp. The best thing to do would be to contact the camp itself.

Donna,

This article is geared more towards camp directors than the campers. Of course, each camp needs to also take into account their own electronic policy.

Best, Bunk1

We sent our son to camp 4 years ago with 14 addressed envelopes to us, figuring he could send one a day.
In the first 5 days he had sent them all, pleading for us to pick him up. It broke our hearts to read these, but we stuck with it.
Long story short, he is at his 4th year at that camp, and we sent him with the same (14 S.A.S.E.)
He will be back in a few days and we have gotten 1 that only says "Camp is Great"
